Overview

The Instructional Designer will analyze Omnitracs products to define and develop product training and documentation materials appropriate for delivery in a variety of media. Potential deliverables could include on-line help, self-paced training, videos, job-aids, and instructor-led training. Audiences include external customer end-users, sales partners, international partners/resellers, and internal customer support teams such as call center, customer service representatives, and sales account managers.

Responsibilities

Prefer 5 - 7 years of experience designing, developing, and delivering on-line help, instructor-led or self-paced courses, and performance support in a fast-paced, competitive, technical field.

 

The successful candidate will have experience with the following technology or equivalent:

  • ELearning tools: Captivate or Storyline
  • Graphic development tools: Adobe Suite of Products, specifically Photoshop, and Audition
  • Learning Management System (LMS) experience
  • Version control and content management tools: SharePoint, Agile, Perforce
  • Bug tracking systems: Jira, AHA!

Knowledge:

  • Analysis – the successful candidate will perform needs and audience analysis in order to define learning objectives, identify training gaps, and recommend formats responsive to technical and customer requirements
  • Design and Development - the successful candidate will design and develop training programs, course outlines, job aids, and other support materials as well as develop assessments to gauge audience level of understanding
  • Industry standards - the successful candidate will recommend department standards for instructional material and documentation in order to stay consistent and current with industry standards
  • Transportation and Logistics industry - the successful candidate will preferably have knowledge of the transportation and logistics industry and the Hours of Service rules for the Department of Transportation

  • Communication – the successful candidate will possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Organization - the successful candidate will acquire and organize basic source material, including applicable specifications, engineering write-ups, and drawing packages, as well as manage multiple deliverables deployed to several different locations
  • Multi-tasking - the successful candidate will manage multiple products with varying deliverables and development and release cycles

  • Collaboration - the successful candidate will work closely with other team members and departments on a regular basis to ensure product usability and appropriate performance support, deliverables are aligned with marketing requirements, and deliverables meet customer needs
  • Minimalist writing - the successful candidate will use with minimalist writing techniques conducive to reuse and translation
  • Achievement - the successful candidate accomplishes goals and ensures objectives are met

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor of Arts/Science in English, Technical Writing, Technical Communication, or Educational Technology
